A New Zealand standardised formulation is available Formula and Batch Sheet
This formula uses Ora-Blend or Ora-Plus and Ora-Sweet 1:1, and has been approved by the Extemporaneous Compounding Pharmacists' Group.

An alternative formula is given below if Ora products are not available.

Amlodipine is available in tablet form as amlodipine besylate (besilate) and mesylate. This information applies to amlodipine besylate.
Amlodipine besylate is slightly soluble in water and sparingly soluble in ethanol.

Amlodipine 1mg per mL
Amlodipine besylate tablets 5mg 20 
Methylcellulose 1% 50  mL
Syrup to   100  mL

 

 
Expiry:  30 days

 

 
Stability:   91 days at 4°C, 56 days at 25°C.
Microbial stability cannot be assured.
Storage:  Amber glass bottles used in the study.

NOTES
  1. Norvasc® tablets and some other brands disperse easily in water.  The dispersion can be flushed down a nasogastric tube so this is an ideal method of administering a long acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker to a critically ill patient.
  2. Amlodipine in a base of 1:1 Ora Plus/Ora Sweet has similar stability to the above.1
