Olanzapine is practically insoluble in water.

Expiry:  14 days.
Storage:  Refrigerate.  Protect from light.

  1. Exact details of the base were not provided.  It was described as a paediatric mixture base containing syrup, carboxymethylcellulose and parabens.
  2. Methylcellulose 1% could be used as an alternative suspending base.
  3. Olanzapine (as crushed Zyprexa® tablets) is stable for up to 6 hours at room temperature
    and up to 48 hours refrigerated in water and the following beverages; orange juice, apple juice, cola and milk.2
  4. Dispersing the tablet prior to giving the dose could be considered.
  5. As olanzapine may be irritant to the eye and can cause contact dermatitis, care in preparation and administration is advised.  When breaking or crushing olanzapine tablets it is recommended to wear gloves and wash hands before and after exposure.
