Formulation in Pharmacy Practice   2nd Edition

Tranexamic acid is freely soluble in water.  A 5% solution has a pH of 6.5 - 8; the injection has a pH of 6.5 - 7.5.
A commercially prepared liquid formulation is available in some countries.  No formal stability studies of extemporaneous formulations have been located.
Tranexamic acid is sometimes prescribed as a 5% mouthwash or oral liquid for short-term use following dental extraction.

A 500mg tablet can be crushed and dispersed in 10mL of water immediately prior to administration.
Alternatively, a liquid can be prepared by mixing crushed tablets with water and then filtering out the insoluble excipients to give a clear solution.  A maximum expiry date of 5 days is suggested for this preparation, which has not been formally tested.  Refrigerate and protect from light.
